Southwell Races, February 2026

What would usually be a standard, run of the mill evening meeting at Southwell has been given a new lease of life and has now become the focal point of the racing world. The recent invention of "Friday Night Live", a scheme supported by the Racing Post and ITV Racing, sees evening meetings turn into a selling point of the sport to the younger generation. The inclusion of speed dating and a live DJ set might divide opinion of the pure racing fans, but it has helped to boost crowd numbers at fixtures.
The latest meeting of the Friday Night Live series would fall at the Nottinghamshire venue of Southwell as an eight race card took place. The card would see a number of very competitive and valuable handicaps over a range of distances, but all eyes would fall on a novice race, which has been the most talked about race of its kind for a long time. A former Champion Hurdle winner would make a highly anticipated debut of the flat.

The added incentive of a £40,000 prize pot to the winner also attracted other big names to the fray in what would be a rare race of its kind.
