Eboracum Racing, June 2025
Father's Day would coincide nicely with a stable visit at Eboracum Racing, on the outskirts of Easingwold village near York, as the racing yard would open its doors to a new audience. A joint venture with York City Knights Rugby League team where members of the supporters club were able to go behind the scenes of a successful stable and see what happens in the day to day running of a different sport. The Knights team are on a highly following a recent victory in the 1862 Cup Final which took place at Wembley a few weeks ago. The two groups have bonded through the sport of rugby league with the founders of Good Racing Company being ardent supporters of the game. On a more personal note, the Good Racing Company sprung into the public eye with its support and continued charity work for the Motor Neurone Disease foundation and were also close to the much missed rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who sadly passed away last year. By forming partnerships with some very important and deserving charities in all walks of life, The Good Racing Company are providing an excellent service by combining horse racing and charities.
Brazilian-born Ivan Furtado has now taken over the wheel of the stables following the departure of Craig Lidster in February. With a change of management comes a change of faces. Furtado has inherited a large portion of talented horses and potential improvers, as well as those who were under the care of Furtado at his previous base in Newark, near Southwell racecourse. A first winner for Furtado since the move came at Redcar in April as City Of Strangers caused a bit of a surprise by winning at big odds. Just the day before the visit at Chester, Nazron came agonisingly close to winning at Chester, missing out by a short head, and The Bell Conductor also finished close up when sixth in the Epsom Dash a week ago. These horses will be able to carry the Eboracum flag at a very competitive level in sprint handicaps, while the future looks promising with younger horses who are threatening to win such as Pearly Squirrel, The Childe of Hale, Alfa Whiteburd and the juvenile Alfa Patisserie, who was in action at Doncaster later in the afternoon.
With grateful thanks to the York City Knights RLFC for arranging this visit and to the Eboracum Racing stable and all the staff for hosting.
