James Ferguson Stable Tour

Young emerging trainer James Ferguson is one of the fastest improving stable in the country as he begins his third full season in Newmarket. As the son of former Godolphin racing manager and former trainer in his own right John Ferguson, it would seem likely James would take over the reins.  Despite graduating from university for a career away from horse racing, he soon turned his attentions back to the sport of kings and joined forces with leading trainer in Ireland, Jessica Harrington. It was here where Ferguson learnt the trade and a few years later moved back to Newmarket, this time under the tutelage of the legendary Sir Mark Prescott.

James took out his own license in 2019 and his first full season in 2020 was a successful one. Training from Saville House, the former stable of Willie Musson, the yard landed a listed race through Zoetic, a juvenile filly. Fast forward twelve months and the name James Ferguson has broken out and is well-known in global racing. 2021 was a special year for the handler as Owners Group allocated First Folio, a maiden with some nice form in France, to Ferguson. The success was immediate, winning impressively on his first start and setting dreams of the highest level. First Folio would improve again to win a valuable handicap at York in June and then run at the Glorious Goodwood festival. A first Graded race was just around the corner, when Mise En Scene landed the Group Three Prestige Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood under Oisin Murphy and followed up with a fourth place in the Fillies' Mile. The end of 2021 saw Ferguson land a first Group 1 victory as El Bodegon made all the running to win the Criterium de Saint-Cloud in France.

2022 promises to provide even more for this rapidly improving team. With support from owners as far away as Hong Kong and Australia, as well as local support such as three horses with Owners Group and impressive firepower from Qatar Racing, it would be a surprise to most if there isn't any progress from 2021. The yard have Classic aspirations in Britain and France with Mise En Scene being aimed at the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket as well as El Bodegon with dreams of the Epsom Derby or French Derby. With plenty of youngsters in the yard, the focus is building for tomorrow. Ferguson has already started the year in great form and has some very nice looking two and three year old horses.
