John Wainwright Stable Visit, February 2023

A return to North Yorkshire's racing hub of Norton, just outside Malton, to visit the warm and welcoming stables of trainer John Wainwright.

A Name With History

The John Wainwright name has a lot of history behind it and a wealth of experience to back it up. Taking a trainer's license out when he was just 28, John enjoyed plenty of success in the early and mid 2000's. For the last decade, John has hailed from the Granary House Stables, but plenty of success has been celebrated over the years at his former homes at Kennythorpe Yard and Hanging Hill Farm thanks to the likes of stable star Vita Speicolata, a mare who John trained from day one and was a smart juvenile; winning the listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown and laterly further listed successes at Chester as an older mare. She helped put the Wainwright name on the map and boosted his reputation in the racing world. Plenty of memories were made through the likes of Beyond The Clouds, Catch The Cat, Tommy Smith and most recently Loch Jipp, winner of the 2008 Hilary Needler Stakes at Beverley.
Not one to live on former glories, the Wainwright stable enjoyed an upturn in fortunes in 2022 with one of their best seasons to date. Tasting victory during the turf flat season with four individual horses, the stable star is currently the tough and consistent mare Biplane, who regularly runs with credit. The horses are often kind to punters as there is a healthy profit to a £1 stake placed on each runner.
With support from plenty of syndicates, the atmosphere is often friendly and welcoming. 2023 holds the hope of a possible return to the some of those memorable days of the past.

John Wainwright Racing Club

The self named racing club was founded in 2022 as an affordable way of getting closer to the ins and outs of a racehorse and the stables. With shares costing just £59, customers receive a lot for their money such as open days, badges to attend the races as an owner and information on their horse.
