York Races, June 2023

With the hustle, bustle and excitement of Royal Ascot looming larger by the day, there was just enough time to squeeze in one more high quality weekend of racing before the eyes of the racing world descend onto Ascot for the biggest five days in horse racing.
The midway point in June often marks the popular Charity raceday at York, which often provides huge support for the Macmillan cancer charity. With various fundraisers taking place throughout the day on and off the course, the race meeting helped to contribute an amazing £9,000,000 for the charity.
The meeting is often well supported by racegoers with plenty of high class action on the track over the two day meeting. On Friday, the listed Ganton Stakes has been won by some highly useful names in the past and despite the small field this year, the quality was still up to standard. One of the most valuable selling races of the season takes place on Friday as well and moving on to Saturday, there is another trial for the Ebor Handicap in the shape of the listed Grand Cup Stakes alongside a heritage handicap sprint for three-year-olds, which has unearthed a high class sprinter of the future.
