York Races, June 2025
One of the most popular meetings of York's racing year would take place, fixed in its usual slot of the second weekend in June which serves as an appetiser for the prestigious Royal Ascot festival a few days later.
The two day meeting on the Knavesmire features competitive racing and valuable prizes up for grabs over a range of distances and ability. Punters attending on day one will be hoping for no such curse on Friday the 13th and three class two races would headline the bill. A sprint handicap over six furlongs for fillies and mares, a novice race for juveniles and a middle distance handicap over ten furlongs provide winning opportunities for horses all shapes and sizes.
Saturday's card attracts a large crowd year on year and backs up as a charity fundraiser event for Macmillan Cancer Research. With various events taking place throughout the day, it would provide a fantastic backdrop alongside the racing action. On the track, an ultra competitive handicap for three year olds often produces a sprinter to follow into the big leagues. Elsewhere, stamina tests would stand next to the speed tests as the listed Grand Cup Stakes looks to unearth more contenders for the Ebor Handicap later in the year. Lastly, a popular and historic event would see the lady amateur riders step into the spotlight for the Queen Mother's Cup over twelve furlongs.
