York Races - May 2026
One of the leading racecourses in the world, York racecourse, would open its doors to the public for the first time in 2026 as the sound of hooves pounding the ground would return to the Knavesmire for the Dante Festival.
The first Classics of the season may have just been settled at Newmarket, but the focus would quickly move to the next two, the Derby and The Oaks at Epsom in June. The most accredited trial for both races take place at York, the Musidora Stakes for fillies on the Wednesday and then the Dante Stakes for the colts on Thursday; both of which take place over ten furlongs and have produced many Epsom winners over the years.
It wouldn't just be the classic generation in the spotlight though, elsewhere the meeting would see the return of top class racehorses of all distances begin their season. A newly renamed Group Two sprint would be the sub headliner on day one of the meeting, the older fillies and mares would do battle in the Middleton Stakes while some old favourites in the staying division would line up in the Yorkshire Cup over fourteen furlongs.
As racegoers flocked to the home of racing in the North, the action will be fast, furious and of the highest quality. A perfect way to open a summer of racing at York.
