York Races, Late July 2025
The popular "Go Racing In Yorkshire" festival would continue along its tour of the region as this nine day collection of horse racing action would see a race meeting in the vale of Yorkshire each day. Starting at Pontefract on the previous Friday evening and ending where it started nine days later, it is a great showcase of racing action in the area.
It would be York's turn to shine in the spotlight with this often well attended double header which had the added bonus of big name music concerts after racing. The action on day one would take place in the evening, York's only night meeting of the season and it would contain some prestigious events on track. The headline act would be the EBF Lyric Stakes, which takes place over ten furlongs and has been used in the past as a vital step in a prospective broodmare's career. Elsewhere, a class three novice contest for juveniles has been won in the past by some very good horses; most notably Group One winner Shaquille. All eyes will be on this year's lineup with a view to the future.
Saturday's fixture would be held at a more regular spot as it shared the limelight with the top class racing at Ascot further down South. The Group Two York Stakes would top the bill and is seen as a key trial for the upcoming Juddmonte International which takes place over course and distance and under similar conditions in just under a month. With plenty of competitive handicaps on offer, it could be difficult for punters to find a winner or two and some well known faces would line up on the Knavesmire once again. The class two Sky Bet Dash is another high quality handicap to take place at York while the unique Jumps Jockeys' Nunthorpe Handicap would open the card as National Hunt riders would swap fences for stalls in this one-off speed test.
