Friday 9th October

Race One: The William Hill Gold Weekend Autumn Mile Handicap - Class Three - One Mile - Runners:
The action on the Knavesmire would get underway with a bang as this very competitive class three handicap over a mile opened the bill. Just like many races of this kind at York, a number of course regulars and past winners would line up for this year's renewal, with some horses expected to relish the recent easing of the ground conditions. In recent years, there have been a few locally based winners of this race, while twelve months ago, the Karl Burke stable would land yet another big handicap with Ice Max, who defied top weight with a classy performance before adding a listed race win on his next start.
The classier horses would find themselves at the head of the weights and last time out winner Power Fizz would give weight away to all of his rivals. The William Haggas-trained four year old had lost his way slightly earlier in the season, but flashed home over seven furlongs here last month to score narrowly and moved back up in distance here. In the same silks of Sheikh Juma Dalmook, Eternal Force would be another runner for the Haggas stable. The son of Dubawi recorded a hat trick of wins towards the end of last year and hasn't run badly in some strong contests this year. He would take third on softer ground recently at Haydock, so would handle these conditions. The likeable Northern Express would return once again for the Michael Dods yard, looking to finally win this race. He finished second in 2023 and third last year in this race, before adding another York win to his CV back in July. He remains in top form at the age of eight.
