URSA MAJOR Racing Club

Ursa Major Racing Club need just a small introduction as they have quickly asserted themselves as one of the most well known syndicate groups in British horse racing. Founded by Craig Talbot and branched from an online tipping service, Ursa Major was born in 2018 and had their first runner in early 2019. The objective is simple, to find a diamond bargain at the sales and provide the best value for money service for members.
Affectionately known as the "Battenberg silks" due to the similarities of the cakes, the pink and yellow colours are now seen regularly on a racecourse up and down the country. Ursa Major now have an ever-growing roster of trainers in the north, north-east and Scotland, as well as in the south. Amongst the roll of honour include two of the quickest up and coming trainers of the north, Grant Tuer and Rebecca Menzies, as well as a long standing partnership with Mark Walford.
Syndicate manager Craig Talbot is constantly on the lookout for new purchases at horses in training sales events and has a keen and expert eye for picking out a bargain. Such examples include purchasing useful stayer Ghadbbaan, who was bred with an impressive pedigree by Cheveley Park Stud, for just £6,000 and Dis Donc, a former inmate of legendary Irish trainer Noel Meade, for just £4,000.
Members can expect complete honesty and transparency from everyone involved with daily updates, photos and videos of each horse in training. The atmosphere between members is always warm and friendly and 2022 provided plenty of memories for the syndicate, including a winner on prime time TV. The Sunday Series is aimed at bringing smaller stables into the spotlight with competitive race meetings on Sunday evenings throughout the summer. It was at the Hamilton meeting where Ursa Major Racing made their name as Candescence, their rapidly improving filly, landed the feature race of the day. Whether it's over sprint distances, staying distances, over hurdles or over fences, success is never far away. The much loved Event Of Sivola continues to find winning form at quirky venues such as Hexham, Catterick and Sedgefield while Champagne Sarah won over the minimum trip in 2023.
The ultimate aim for the future though is to continue the progress of the present and build for the future. The primary aim is to continue their motto of having more for less. The syndicate offers 1%, 2.5% and 5% in their horses like other racing ownership groups, but keep the prices low and competitive. Therefore, members get plenty of value for money. 2024 starts with the group riding the crest of a wave following a highly successful 2023. Their star horse heading into this year is Curious Rover, a very speedy and highly consistent sprinter who finished no lower than third in his seven starts. The Katie Scott-trained gelding finished his first season as Scotland's highest rated juvenile. New and exciting partnerships have been struck with Group One winning trainers Michael Dods and Julie Camacho as the Battenbergs continue to grow in the racing world. There is no better time to get involved than now.
