Chelsea Thoroughbreds

As the name suggests, the Chelsea Thoroughbreds were founded in Chelsea, south London and have gradually built themselves into a high profile operation within British racing and the future is looking bright with plenty of exciting prospects to come in the coming years.
Set up by the passionate horse racing fan and city businessman Richard Morecombe, the syndicate was born in 2018. There is strong support steering the ship with two widely recognisable figures occupying the role of racing managers. Emma Spencer has decades of experience in the sport having enjoyed a successful career as an amateur jockey as well as being lead presenter for the likes of Channel 4 Racing and other international racing channels. On the National Hunt side, Ella McNeill comes from a family who have enjoyed top level success with their own horses.
With their string of horses being predominantly on the flat, the Chelsea Thoroughbred's royal and light blue silks have been seen in the winner's enclosure at all of the big racing festivals including the Ebor Festival, Royal Ascot and the Newmarket July festival. Their breakout star was the gelding Sam Cooke, trained by Ralph Beckett. Developing into a smart middle distance handicapper, Sam Cooke won at York, Chester, Newmarket and Newbury as well going down in defeat with all guns blazing in valuable races.
In the wake of his recent retirement, Sam Cooke's shoes will need filling. One horse has already proven tailor made for that job. The four-year-old Jimi Hendrix has been classy for a couple of years, but has really delivered in 2023. Bolting up in the Spring Mile at Newbury, he followed up with a brilliant display in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. He would lead home fellow Chelsea Thoroughbreds horse Sonny Liston in a memorable 1-2 for the syndicate. Many rival groups would dream of landing a race of this prestigious calibre but to own the winner and runner-up is an achievement rarely seen.
The outfit has seen immediate success over hurdles with the promising novice Knickerbockerglory, trained by Dan Skelton. The son of Fame And Glory was a frequent winner over hurdles and fences before finishing second in the ever competitive EBF Novice Final at Sandown.

With an ever increasing squad, hopes are high for more big festival success in the coming years. Sydneyarms Chelsea landed a French Group 3 in 2022 before finishing a respectable fifth in the Fillies' Mile, the three-year-old Chelsea Green has also looked smart and the unraced juvenile Cadogan Gardens is one of many youngsters getting their owners excited ahead of their eagerly awaited debuts.
