Middleham Park Racing

Cold Stare at Doncaster, March 2022.

Middleham Park Racing need little introduction as they are the leading ownership syndicate in Britain. Ever since their induction way back in 1995, Middleham Park Racing have led the way and changed the game for syndicates to follow. The operation was founded by Tim Palin, whose son Tom is also involved in running of the operation, and the syndicate was named after the area he lived in, the famous racing hub Middleham. Joining forces with esteemed trainer Patrick Haslam, the first Middleham Park Racing runner turned out to be a great success. China Castle would go on to win twenty five races and over £125,000 in prize money. Even to this day and even after success at the highest level, Middleham Park Racing remain close to their roots by supporting trainers in the Middleham area, including Ben Haslam; son of Patrick.
The light blue and orange silks are now synonymous with British racing, it's no surprise to see runners carry the colours almost daily around the country, even multiple representatives in the same race on occasions. With the tally of winners now standing at over 1400, it is an impressive feat in any way you look at it. In 2021, Middleham Park Racing broke the British record for most individual winners in a calendar year when Kodiac Sangarius became the 104th winner. In 2022, they surpassed their own record with their best year ever, courtesy of 125 winners in the calendar year.
The quality of racehorse to represent Middleham Park Racing has improved rapidly over the past fifteen years. One of the many breakthrough horses was Junior, who completed a rare double by winning at Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival within the same year, Beshabar landed a memorable Scottish Grand National in 2011 and countless popular handicappers have won valuable races over the years, the likes of Burnt Sugar, Captain Dunne and Copper Knight to name just a few. Success at the highest came courtesy of Toormore, trained by Richard Hannon. A high class juvenile, he won a first Group One for the syndicate in the National Stakes at The Curragh to supplement his Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in an unbeaten first season in 2013. Classic dreams were soon to be had as Toormore landed the Craven Stakes at Newmarket and was placed in further Group One events, including at Royal Ascot. Bought for £36,000 at the sales, Toormore proved to be one of the buys of the century, becoming a champion 2-Year-Old and winning £475,551 in prize money and sold to the powerful Godolphin operation. Buoyed by the success of Toormore, another bargain buy was made with G Force, a once-raced colt who joined David O'Meara in 2013. Rising through handicaps and listed races, G Force soon became one of the leading sprinters in the country and won the 2014 Sprint Cup at Haydock, propelling O'Meara into a household name in racing and giving the syndicate a second Group One win. A third Group One was to come just a few years later, in the form of Ventura Storm. Purchased for 110,000 Guineas at the breeze up sales, it was a potential risk but Ventura Storm had the look and aura of something special. Trained by the great Richard Hannon, Ventura Storm came into his own as a three year old, winning the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket, Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton and then becoming a first Group One winner in Europe by landing the Gran Premio del Jockey Club at Milan. Ventura Storm's talent prompted a tilt at the world's oldest Classic race, the St. Leger at Doncaster. It turned out to be a day of dreams as Ventura Storm would go on to finish a narrow second behind Harbour Law, a moment of agony and ecstasy which has kept the fire burning for the imminent first Classic success in Britain.
In recent times, Marie's Rock has developed into a high class hurdler as she landed the Grade One Mares' Hurdle at both the 2022 Cheltenham and Punchestown Festivals and on the flat, Shouldvebeenaring has proven himself as a bargain buy in his short career following a win in the Premier Yearling Stakes at York in 2022 and placings in the Group One Sprint Cup and Prix de la Foret.

In 2023, Britain's leading racing syndicate company celebrated yet new ground when Brave Emperor, their Europe travelling star, landed a Group Three in Germany which bore even larger significance as the 1,500th winner for Middleham Park Racing since their first in 1995. Not only did they achieve this landmark figure, they also surpassed the £2.5 million mark in prize money won throughout 2023. Yet another brilliant and historic year for the boys in blue.
